Professional Programs Making a Difference

Staff in the Professional Bridging Programs recently asked some of our alumni students to help us with a project by commenting on how the program they completed here affected their lives. We were very pleased with their responses and would like to share some of them with you, as all of us played a role in their success.

I highly appreciate how the program changed my life. Four years ago, I got nothing but hard works as part of my survival, but after I finished my program it changed my life by giving me a job that corresponds to my ability and experience. Right now, I am happy with my job and life, and of course, happy with what I am earning. Robert (Accounting Program)

The program helped me personally in the sense that I didn’t experience a low-paying, blue-collar job as my first job. My family was able to buy our own house and car in less than two years of residing here in Canada. (Maritess Amadeo, Accountants Bridging Program)

CMA Students Meet CMA Alberta Representatives

On Wednesday, June 18th, the students from our CMA Accelerated Program had the opportunity to meet staff members from CMA-Alberta’s Calgary office. As this is the first partnership between CMA and an immigrant professional program, it was a great moment for staff and students to put names to the faces of those involved in this exciting pilot project. Students put their best foot forward and introduced themselves in a professional manner. Staff encouraged the students to keep their vision and work ethic towards achieving one of the fastest growing professional designations in Canada.

CMA Students in Demand!

Recently students were made aware of a need for tax auditors at Canada Revenue Agency and were encouraged to apply. This was timely as they will complete their program with EMCN on July 31st. One student promptly completed an excellent resume and cover letter, gathered all of her supporting documents, and submitted her online application form. She has already received a call and will interview this Saturday! Needless to say, her classmates were inspired and motivated to complete their applications as well! It’s wonderful to see our professionally trained and experienced clients gain the confidence, skills, and opportunities that will propel them forward to becoming fully participating and contributing members of our community. The excitement and anticipation is contagious. We wish our students all the best in this first step towards employment.

Government of Canada Enhances Services at Visa Office in Beirut, Lebanon

June 26, 2008

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 26, 2008) - The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, announced today that the Department is enhancing the services offered by its visa office in Beirut, Lebanon. Effective immediately, permanent resident applicants from Lebanon can choose to be interviewed by immigration officers in Beirut.

"Citizens of Lebanon deserve to have their visa interviews conducted in their own country," said Minister Finley. "We are upgrading our services at the visa office in Beirut in order to make it easier for people to complete their application process."

Until now, permanent resident applicants were required to travel to Damascus, Syria, for an interview since immigrant applications from Lebanon are processed by the visa office in Damascus. The only exception applied to family class applicants who had the choice of being interviewed in either Beirut or Damascus. In such cases, immigration officers would travel from Damascus to Beirut to conduct the interviews.

This new change means that applicants requiring interviews will now have a choice between Beirut, Lebanon and Damascus, Syria.

The Government of Canada is continuously looking at ways to improve services to applicants.
