News from the Professional Programs

Volunteer Opportunity

Beginning with the Payroll students, volunteering will become a feature of the professional programs. Students will get the chance to experience a different culture with the hope of fostering mutual learning. The participating organizations will benefit from the contribution immigrant professionals make to their group.

The criteria for volunteering are as follows. The students will:

  • perform a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer work
  • engage in activities that are not a part of their cultural group
  • involve themselves in activities they have not completed in the past
  • participate in activities different from the ones in which they are currently involved
  • be involved in team activities
EMCN instructors have high expectations that this opportunity will not only open new doors for the students of the Professional Programs, but will also give the community a chance to see the vast experiences and skills that immigrant professionals bring to the community.

Meaningful volunteer assignments for students are welcomed from the EMCN’s staff.

Portfolio Presentations a Resounding Success!

Participants in the Banking Program spent a rewarding Friday afternoon sharing their completed portfolios!

After 11 weeks of work, the 18 immigrant professionals were able to stand proudly in front of their peers, with their portfolios in their hands, displaying a new-found confidence in themselves and in their abilities while sharing their "lives on paper" with one another. The aura in the room was magnetic, and pride was written on students’ faces and heard in their voices. It was hard not to be energized by it all.

Congratulations to the Banking students! We know the belief they have in themselves will be rewarded.
