Important Notice: GOOGLE TALK

Good afternoon everyone!

It has been about one week since our new AV / Information Tech, Nathan, has sent you all an e-mail regarding “Google talk”, explaining the system and the benefits for all our staff in the area on immediate communication. This is an on-line communications tool that will help us to better assist all the people we work with and stay connected as a team.

We need everyone to cooperate (our entire staff) and read the notice describing how to validate their e-mail addresses. Please review your memo from Nathan and make it a priority to validate today.

If you need assistance, please feel free to contact Nathan or me with your questions. Thanks everyone!

ECAE 25th Anniversary and Ethiopian Second Millennium

The Ethiopian Community Association in Edmonton (ECAE) requests the honor of your presence at a gala to be held on September 8, 2007 as part of the celebration to mark the Association’s 25th Anniversary and the Ethiopian Second Millennium. We look forward to sharing this milestone event with African community leaders, our partners, invited dignitaries, and, of course, the greater members of the Ethiopian and African communities.

The gala will be preceded by a three-day long celebration that will be highlighted by a series of cultural events --- music, dance, exhibition, panel discussion and sport. Programs and activities are planned to honor, publicize and celebrate the broad achievements of Ethiopian-Canadians in Edmonton.

As you may know, Ethiopia will celebrate the Second Millennium on September 11, 2007, which in accordance with the Julian (also called the Ethiopic) Calendar occurs seven years after the Gregorian (European) celebration of this milestone.

You may be interested to know that the Assembly of the African Union (AU) at its eighth ordinary session, held in Addis Ababa on 29 and 30 January 2007, has passed a Declaration in which it recognized the Ethiopian Millennium as a unique African occasion. It further called upon all African Union Member States, the Commission of the African Union and regional economic communities to extend their support towards its successful celebration. The United Nations General Assembly has subsequently adopted a resolution recognizing the celebration of the Ethiopian Millennium as a unique African occasion.

As part of the bigger and wider celebration in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Community Association in Edmonton aims to bring together families and friends of the Ethiopian community in and around Edmonton, the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. We hope that the feel good factor that the spirit of the Millennium celebration brings will play a major role in bringing closer Ethiopians and Africans in Edmonton and create greater understanding and mutual cultural awareness between members of our communities.

The members who participate in Ethiopian Community Association share your organization’s commitment to immigrants and newcomers of our city and are grateful for the services rendered to them over the years. I strongly encourage EMCN staff members to take the time to visit our extraordinary program and allow this inspiring group of our community to share their stories of hard work and commitment. If you have any questions, you may contact me directly at 780-909-8346 or tayalew@shaw.ca. Once again, I hope many of you can join us for this historical event.
The venue for the Gala for September 8 will be held at Alberta Aviation Museum (11410 Kingsway Ave) starting 8 PM.

Please direct any suggestions, questions, concerns or comments to Tesfaye Ayalew at (780) 909-8346 or at tayalew@shaw.ca.

Sincerely,

Tesfaye Ayalew, President
Board, Ethiopian Community Association
