Temporary Foreign Workers
On September 22 & 23 we at EMCN are hosting a meeting about temporary foreign workers and will have about 50 guests here from western Canada.
On Saturday evening we will be having an informal social time here (in our main reception area) from 7:30 to 10 PM and it would be good to have some local friends come along and join the evening, enjoy some good Maria Dunn music and a chance to meet some of the folks taking part.
So this is your invitation to come along, for a little while or all evening, as you are able. There is no cost. Unfortunately there is not room to extend the invitation to you to attend the actual meetings.

The Bicentenary of the Abolition of the British Slave Trade – A Canadian Perspective
To mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Transatlantic slave trade in the British Empire 1807-2007, the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) has published a commemorative issue of its flagship journal DIRECTIONS. This issue shines a light on the Canadian perspective of the Transatlantic slave trade and hones in on the slave trade’s impact on Canada’s development and the linkages to the present day situation in Canada.
Guest Editor, Dr. Afua Cooper, a renowned historian and author who has done ground-breaking work on the enslavement of Black people in Canada, notes that this particular Bicentenary is of great significance in the history of African Canadians, and Africans world-wide.
The line-up of contributors in this issue include Prof. Raymond Winbush writing on Reparations for Africans, Carol Duncan on The Church and Slavery, Tamari Kitossa on The Unfinished Business: Racial Profiling a consequence of Eurocentric Law and chattel slavery, just to mention a few in this ground-breaking and cutting edge Bicentenary issue of DIRECTIONS.
